I scraped a years’ worth of coralline algae… Now what?

So, I decided to scrap the coralline algae off the back wall of my reef. Its at least a years’ worth and before I dispose of it, I wanted to ask the community what they do with theirs?

Chuck it. Not much else you can do.

Watch your numbers very closely for a couple days. Losing that much coralline will slow down your alkalinity and calcium consumption

Yeah, good looking out. I cut the DOS to half for both and been monitoring now for the last 24hr. So far, so good. I tried to plan it so I could be home during the weekend to observer. Appreciate the response!

I did, and it definitely has a cleaner look to it. The contrast with the corals and rock against the black background makes a big difference too.

You could offer it to local people to seed their tanks if its still wet

When i did that, I left the layers on the bottom and they slowly dissolved

I was thinking I'll take some to the coral farmers market tomorrow. Someone might need to seed a new system.

When I scraped my back wall clean of all coraline in one shot I started to have issues with other types of algae taking over.
