Good luck with your ICP test. My most recent STN battle with my SPS was due to low nutrients in an effort to reduce algae. Started feeding heavier and my SPS started doing better. Currently in an uphill battle with bubble algae.

Do you QT corals? Not saying I have the answer, but it's possible some parasite is attacking the SPS tissue, I forget what they are called, they are like parasitic dinoflagellates. You would need to ID in the tissue, but there is some type of treatment that kills them. I forget the name, I'm sorry. I just would try to see if you can use a magnifying glass on the SPS tissue to see if you see little round organisms moving around in the flesh, causing STN/RTN.

i do not unfortunately. Just a dip before they go in. I try every morning before the light are on and occasionally at night to inspect the tank for those type of things. Haven’t noticed anything, but it may be worth pulling one out and inspecting further. Thanks for the tip!

You can have some sort of protozoa infection. A way to cure coral and I've personallly tried it is antibiotics. I've had corals STN slowly and I've dipped them every night in antibiotics and it has stopped the infection and the corals then healed and grew back. I have a acropora colony that still has evidence STN but is slowly growing over the dead skeleton

This talk of setting lights to "acclimitisation" is mental. The frags have not come from a dark cave. The only acclimitising my SPS get is being held out of the water for a minute or so, then milliputted to the rock exactly where I want it to go. Barely any losses.

I'm going to go with high aluminium or Zinc when your ICP comes back.

For my tank, if anything not going right in my 2 part dosing, like I was late to refill the container by a couple days, I can see problem starting like growth stopped and slight tissue lost at the edge. It would take a month to recover. The tank need consistent input of alk and ca, while still maintaining consistent daily reading of them. That's the stability we keep talking about.

In regards to Dosing, I’m Dosing Red Sea alk/mag/calcium via a bubble magus Doser. I make sure it’s constantly full, of it gets below half full, it gets refilled. Check it weekly also to make sure it’s running correctly and there isn’t air bubbles. Those three parameters stay stable.

I keep up with my water changes, rarely miss a week

socks changed 3-4x a week. Socks washed with a cap of bleach and then rinse only cycle 3x after. I also run rinse cycle prior to make sure I don’t have soap still lingering in wash.

I inspect the tank multiple times a day for bugs or anything Crawling around I didn’t add.

interesting on the high aluminum, i had that as well as elevated tin. i read that the ceramic blocks could have elevated the aluminum oddly enough, which is why i removed mine completely. i found things got better after doing that, and my icp tests reflected that. OP mentioned he had one of those blocks, so would be interesting if there really is a correlation

I'm also wondering if some of these high metal results people are getting are possibly metal traces from washing machines used to wash socks? other potential way metals entering systems?

My ALK is currently at 8.8 and PO4 is at .02 but it has been as low as .005
My GFO is getting exhausted so PO4 was at 21ppb but a month ago it was at 5ppb
I have a mixed reef and have troubles with the Euphyllia corals.
The SPS coral grow like weeds.

Typically 7.0-8.0 alk is better for sps when po4 is under 0.05. Not saying higher alk won’t yield good results, but it can lead to burnt tips. I believe they really don’t matter much as long as you are providing your corals with ample fish poop multiple times a day. Heavy in and heavy out. But if you are the type of reefer that obsesses over no3/po4 to point where you start feeding less and strip your water too fast bc you’re afraid of higher nutrients, then that is what to leads to coral stress. Elevated no3/po4 is not going to kill corals unless you go waaaaaay over board and reach poisonous levels. I don’t know if there is a hard definitive answer to what that level is, but there are many sps keepers that have +50 no3 and +1.0 ppm po4. I myself like my alk at 8.5 so I keep my no3 10-25 and po4 0.10-0.30 ppm (35-100 ppb) with zero problems. If you scroll through these threads you’ll find way more sps death threads with low to zero nutrients than elevated.

I had a few acro bleaching parts or whole side of the bodies . Using magnifying glass didn’t find any thing. I used a dental water jet and sprayed around the bleaching areas. Less than 2 wks, notice that the tissues improve and grow.

Two things that surprise me, are salinities. Bottom one is the RODI container. Not sure why there is .11 ppt salinity. Second my reef is lower the my refractometer shows. Assuming the temp the sample was?
