This is the first sign that the impeller and cage need a good scrubbing. It happens about once a month for me. Once I hear the noise and see the bubbles then I remove and clean during my next water change.
I would of never believed a cleaning would have fixed the air issue but it sure did. Thanks for the post, I was almost ready to pull them out and sell them. They are quiet again and I know the fix when they start to trap air again.

@Joeganja, I think this pump is producing too much flow for me. What mode and speeds do you run it I noticed you have a 2x2x2 cube. I have a 3x2x2 and have it aimed directly across the tank from the top left side. I max the pump out at 30%. It is in the bottom right where I see the corals being blown back towards the pump where I see a lot of flow.

I bought the ice cap 3k.
Was very worried about the noise that all the negative reviews.
Well ,it arrived yesterday, super quiet.
Got it set at 50%, you can only here if you put your ear to the glass.
I am so glad I went and purchased.
It's a different animal then your standard power heads.

I love the performance of mine but once they seem to get a slime coating on the cage impellers they will get noisy. Just takes 5 minutes to pull them out and clean the impeller with a tooth brush and they will be quiet again. Pretty much a pain but it’s the price you pay for a good performer for half the price of the maxspect

Looking to get 2 of these for a 4x2x2 120 gallon tank. SPS dominant. From people who have used them do you feel it can move enough water for this application?

To add on: I have a 3k (only pump on a 180g half circle) and a 1k (in the sump). My LFS runs 2 in opposite directions on their 500g. They get noisy in wavemaker mode and need more cleanings, but for the money they are brilliant
