Hi all... Just had results back from my first ICP test. I had them test samples from my display tank and my RO water tank. Everything looks good apart from two 'pollutants' ... Tin and Aluminium! My RO results show zero for both Tin (Sn) and Aluminium (Al) ... But my display tank samples reads:

Sn (Tin) 0.0507 mg/l (Recommended max level 0.001 mg/l
Al (Aluminium) 0.0270 mg/l (Recommended max level 0.01mg/l

So my question(s) ...
  • Where would Tin and Aluminium be coming from if its not in the RO water?
  • Is this a concern?
  • How do I remove/reduce Sn and Al?
I've attached the full PDF report, page one is the display tank, pad two the RO tank.

Many thanks in advance.

Do you use Marine Pure blocks? Lots of folks thing they leach AI. Tin could be from anything metal, powerheads, heater, time to go looking for anything that could be rusting.

No Marine Pure but I do use Maxspect Biospheres... Other than that, titanium heaters, titanium grounding rod, MP40’s and a COR20 are the only other possible metal sources I can think of, will check them.

Question now is, do these levels have any concerns for livestock?

I like to do them every couple of months to make sure my test kits, and methods, are accurate. $50 every 4months or so is a drop compared to everything else.
