Hi all!

I've started getting this very fast growing and stubborn orange algae growing. Appears to only be on the sand at this stage. This photo is the DAY AFTER a gravel vac and 20% water change.

Sand was clear after afternoon Gravel Vac, so grew back to this point overnight!

Tank Specs:
120L/30G Display w/Sump.
Established: ~4 month.
Fish: 2 small oscellaris, 2 firetail goby, fairy wrasse.
Inverts: Tuxedo Urchin, Turbo/Nassarius Snail, 1 small clam.
Corals: Anemone, Toadstool Leather, Elegance Coral, Singularia.

Haven't done a test yet because had only just done water change. However all last tests are pretty much spot on PH 8.3, 0 Nitrate/rite Phosphates <0.15, KH 9, Ammonia was up a tiny bit before change, imagine back to 0 now with 20% change. With only Calcium being a little low.

I use 0 TDS RODI and Red Sea Salt Mix for my own salt water. Do 10% changes weekly. 20% when I feel like it :p

Hey Team - UPDATE

So coming up to about 3 weeks in with this Algae issue. (about a week and a half since OP) I've done 2 water changes since my last photo.

This is the tank again, about 24hrs after a 20% Water Change.

Doesn't seem to be subsiding. I've been reading into Diatoms/Brown Algae. I hear silicates in the water are a big factor... Bit of an amateur question, but if my RO/DI water is testing 0TDS, does that mean it has no Silicates in it too? If so, does that mean based on the experiences I'm having that my silicates contributing to this problem could be coming from my Salt-Mix? I use Red Sea Coral Pro Salt @ ~1.027.

I even dosed 'API Algae Fix Marine' last night when I did the change to see if that would help. I usually try stay away from medicating tank, but I hate this algae! Haha.

Any more tips/advise?

Patience.

A small amount of gfo on the return pump might help.

Patience isn't working for me anymore! I need some way to attack this stuff.

I'm seriously gobsmacked. I'm STILL doing weekly 10-20% water changes, test results couldn't be any more boring (everything's where it should be). And yet my tank looks like this all the time! It's even starting to take over my rocks and also starting to grow on and kill my clam! [emoji30]

I must be missing something?!
