ID critter - um…snakeskin ‘shell’

Hoping someone knows what this is as I don’t even know what to search for. Found it on the glass. It’s hard like a snail shell, but looking at the underside, doesn’t seem to be a snail. It’s not a chiton…..around the edges, it’s jagged, the ‘shell’ almost looks like a snake skin pattern. Any input appreciated! Thanks!

Is it a cowrie? Hard to tell. If it's snail I'd say cowrie or related.

Small, about 1/8” I’d day

Pretty sure that's a leg of an asterina starfish.

They split themselves to multiply

I don’t think so, the underside isn’t slug like. It’s more insect like looking
