ID Please: Capnella? Nephthea? Sinularia?

I think this was labeled neon green sinularia when I bought it, but I don’t think that’s right. The more I look, the more I think it’s nephthea. What say you R2R? The first pics are today (it’s grown) and the latter pics are when I got it. It’s less green now, but much more expanded.

How can you tell between capnella and nephthea?


Nephthea/Litophyton (they are now in the same family together under litophyton) has visible sclerites, which are the fibrous tissues that give the coral shape. Litophyton/nephthea is also stiffer than capnella, but not by much.

Capnella is very recognizable by the horizontal lines down the body, which are the most prominent. Also, the polyp arrangement. Capnella polyps curve upward and close upward, rather than litophyton which often retracts enough to form lobes.

However the most visual difference is the lack of sclerites in the capnella. They are there, just not as large or visible.
