I have had it for 2 weeks now, but I believe yes, it isI like it though. Can you tell if it’s an encrusting coral?
This the best I was able to do.Do you have a better photo of it? My guess is either Cycloseris exanulata or Pavona explanulata
Psammocora has petaloid septa, which this specimen does not have. This the best I was able to do.
I'm leaning towards Psammocora
Note that this coral is thamnasteroid, while Leptastrea is cerioid/plocoid.I’m leaning toward leptastrea
Have you checked out Tidal Gardens? He has a wealth of informative videos on many different types of corals.
I don’t guess it’s every day that you get to use your username in a post. But maybe it is hahaNote that this coral is thamnasteroid, while Leptastrea is cerioid/plocoid.
thamnasteroid is basically when the thecae thicken to the point of becoming the coenosteum, and the septa are confluent (septo-costae), sorta like Pavona or Leptoseris. Plocoid is when the corallites each have their own separate thecae but shared coenosteum, sorta like Dipsastraea (Favia) or Cyphastrea. Cerioid is when the corallites share thecae, similar to (most) Favites or (most) Coelastrea.I don’t guess it’s every day that you get to use your username in a post. But maybe it is haha
What do those terms mean?
