I found these while fishing for pompano on the East coast of Florida. I think they're zoas (the growth pattern looks right) but can anyone confirm? Any idea what kind? They are about the size of a quarter in diameter. I think I'm allowed to take about 5 polyps if I want (will confirm before doing so).

Yes zoas and yes you can take 5 with your sw license. Not that I would since they are pretty bland.

Definitely appear to be Zoas. Based on the photo the name I’d give them is Collosus Silver but I’m just making up the name as I go along. The others would likely be able to give you the actual name

That’s all anyone else is doing, making the names up as they go along.

It's a couple of hours away from me but if the tide is right on my next trip I might grab some....and dip the heck out of them!

Where are they? I used to fish on the treasure coast beaches and Indian river when I was in Port St. Lucie.

Definitely zoas, in Florida you can take 5 polyps per day per person home with you :). I can’t ID the name since theyre closed but they look like a cool grey/green right now! Would be really cool to see how the colors morph in aquarium lighting
Agreed Florida zoas. I have a commercial license and brought back my gallon of them a week ago when visiting. Most the time they are green or bluish with cool patterning, but every now and again, you find pink/purple.

These were collected at the Jensen Beach Jetty

Jensen beach doesn’t have a jetty. Thats either bath tub beach or sailfish point jetty, or even house of refuge in Stuart. There’s a jetty in ft pierce as well. Or maybe in the Indian river lagoon.

You are correct. Had a no sleep moment. It was fort Pierce jetty. About halfway out on the inlet side is a massive colony. There are a few more medium colonies as you walk out as well. Jensen beach was where I got most of my nps nems. Under the first little bridge before you over the lagoon is awesome for collecting nps nems and seaweed blennies.
