Most of the books I’ve read give a max size of 8-9” for Clarions. Do they get larger than this?

They are smaller than many other Holacanthus angels. Usually don’t get bigger than 8”.

Certainly not a clarion, they are rarely imported almost never imported into this hobby so it is the “Closely” related Holacanthus passer.
As said above - Aggressive, Big and a PITA fish.
I don’t recommend any other angelfish and try get fish added as soon as possible if you keep it. 8’ tank or larger IMO for this fish (It can get to 1’2” and is an active fish). Yes it is still a pricey fish at $200-$600 depending on size, health ect..

I see. Guess the sources are about right. TBH I’m not the biggest fan of Holacanthus and most Pomacanthus over the “medium” large angels and Centropyge. An exception for Pomacanthus would be the Majestic.
