Identification help please

I have this growing in my DT. I believe it is a sponge. Not sure. Also want to know if anyone thinks it could be harmful.

It grows white where the lights don’t reach and turns black where it is exposed to the light. Grows in straw like tube shape.

Yes. But pretty much black in person.
