Good morning all. So I got an Illuminati zoa from a friend. IT has been in my tank for a couple weeks, doing great. Staying open other than at night. But the other morning, I came out in my living room to have coffee, and noticed the frag plug was upside down in the sand! I am assuming a snail did this. Bit I have no idea how long it was like that. I picked it up, cleaned all sand off, and put it in a more secure hole. The zoa looks to still be there, as I HAVE seen them in the past just kind of melt away. But it has been like 3 or 4 days now and it is not opening up at all, just a little ball there. Has anyone else ever had something like this happen and the zoa be okay? I feel like it is still alive, but I don't know for how long with it not opening up. Any ideas? Advice?

That has happened to me many times. Most recently was a couple of weeks ago. I noticed one had been knocked over and was in a spot that my fingers wouldn't fit, so I used a pair of tongs to grab it. Unfortunately, I dropped it between some rocks that can't be removed without a complete re-scape. I chalked it up to a loss. A couple of weeks later I found it out on the sandbed. My Tiger Pistol shrimp apparently found it and drug it out. Long story short, the zoa is still recovering, but will definitely survive.

Well good to hear, this at least gives me hope.

My zoas have been through the wringer with our urchin bulldozing them and GHA being on the plug. We just dipped them a few days ago to get rid of the GHA on them, and they should make a recovery after a couple of days. So yes, your zoas will be fine!

Thank you, it just makes me nervous that it has not opened in a few days now. It was upside down in the sand, at least overnight.

I had a Rasta Zoa closed up so tight it just looked like 5 little gray balls for about 2 months. Once it opened up it took off and has grown into probably 2 dozen heads in less than a year.

I just wish the rest of my Zoa's would grow as fast, but they aren't even close.

Thank you! All these posts are definitely putting my mind at ease.
