Super excited for the new tank AND my first ever build thread! Looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all and getting some input from this amazing community of ours. This will be my first bean animal style and triton but I am excited for the challenge and learning some thing new.

So I was hit with the upgrade bug and I pre-ordered the IM 100 ext with their white APS stand. This will be replacing my Red Sea E-170 (I'll be posting that for sale once I get this tank up and running so watch out for that if you're interested)

Goals and approach
  • Mixed reef
  • Triton method
Tank dimensions and placement
  • DT L47.3" x W23.6" x H19.7" (H 55.5" with stand)
  • Stand Interior L 44.25” W 19.31” H 33.75”
  • It will go up against a 52" wall in my living room
  • DT volume 100gal
  • Total volume 134

Equipment
  • Sump Synergy Reef TS-34
  • Reef Octopus Varios S-8 DC pump(2700GPH)
    • Considering Vectra M2
  • Nyos quantum 160 protein skimmer
  • 2x Kessil A360X with A-series rigid mounting arm
  • JBJ Chiller 1/4 or 1/5 HP (Texas heat is relentless)
  • 2x MP40 (I have 2x MP10s on my e-170 considering putting those on the back wall of the new build or just selling. not entirely sure)
  • 2x 150W Eheim jager heaters
  • Neptune fusion apex
  • 2x DOS
  • Tunze 3155 ATO with 15gal reservior
Plumping
  • Tank comes with bean animal style ext overflow
  • 3x 1" drains and 2x 3/4" returns
  • I am going to follow the setup synergy reef uses for their shadow overflow
    • 3 standpipes with the main siphon being the shortest, secondary siphon slightly taller and emergency standpipe significantly taller
    • u elbows with a hole for both main and secondary. None on emergency
    • unions on all three
    • gate valve on primary
    • hard pipe all three drains to sump
    • return pump will have hard pipe coming out clearing the sump--> to soft tubing that will than run to the chiller inlet-->chiller outlet will T off two ways with soft tubing each running to the DT's two returns
      • Does this sound like it would work? Is there a better design?
      • thoughts on check valve for return?
Will post stock list once I've narrowed it down some more. TIA for any tips and advice. Images are off IM website will be posting my own pics as soon as it arrives! Happy reefing

Following along congrats on the new build. I gave this tank a very long look when I was deciding on my new build.

Following.
I think I will be doing same tank. I wanted the new 170 but the wife and cost probably won’t allow that to happen"

I was thinking the same thing but my issue is the weight. the 170's weigh around 625 lbs while the 100 weighs around 200. 200 is "me and a couple of friends". 625 is a "crew" and "equipment". Tried local moving companies and moving services but none of them will touch a job like that.

If I remember correctly the 60x24x20 Cda was estimated to weigh 4-450. I am going to see how much more for 60x28x20 is before they start my build. They are expensive though.

Below is a link to the actual build thread. Sorry about the confusion. When you read what happened you'll understand why I completely forgot I had already started a thread for it. Anyway hope you follow along the real thread. I'll try and get this one deleted. Happy reefing!
