Updated my LED bars to include more natural white diodes (4000k). Now the overall spectrum is closer to 14k. Love the look. I can finally see more than 1 color on my acros.

What light bars did you upgrade to? Looking to get some supplemental lighting for my 30L.

I added popular grow LED bars (from alie express). They will customize the spectrum for a fee. Mine is equal amounts of 420nm, 470nm, and cool white 10,000k.

I took down the light assembly and am upgrading to a Kessil AP9X tomorrow. My goal is to just use the Kessil and not have to use LED bars.

Nice. Do you have par reading differences from the G5/light bars to the AP9x? How has your corals responded to the new light?

I made sure to match PAR numbers during the switch. All measurements taken with the same apogee 510 par meter.

  • Radion XR15 G5 Blue (80% intensity AB+, 78w power consumption) - All corals sat between 180-210 PAR.
  • Radion XR15 G5 Blue (80% intensity AB+) with 2x 24" LED bars (143w total power consumption)- All corals sat between 300-380 PAR.
  • Kessil AP9X (Color: 30; Intensity: 55; UV: 55; Red: 11; Green: 11, 106w power consumption) - All corals sitting between 300 - 390 PAR.
Lower power consumption is the only interesting thing that stood out.

Sorry I missed your comment. 1 xr15 is not enough for an SPS dominant tank. You could use supplemental LED bars like I did and get good PAR.

Hi brother

I was checking the thread because I wanted to install 2 led bars like you did.
I see not much needed it just doesnt look that clean like I prefer it.

Well, my XR30 over my 24" cube still should be enough but I have to crank it up to 100% point intensity to get 300 PAR where my frags sit (which is 16" from the surface) I think I still should be fine with just the XR30 or what do you think?

Once corals started to grow and will be closer to the surface I might be able to lower intensity.

It is not the most elegant solution out there, but good looking for a DIY setup.

You might be okay with a single XR30. I am changing the Kessil ap9x for a G5 XR30 Pro next week. I will update this thread with par levels for my tank. However, my tank is only 12" deep.

I did test my PAR with an Apogee 510
But I have the XR30 G5 Blue and with 8'% Point intensity and all channels 100% (which is AB+) I do get 200-250 PAR in 14" depth. So I need to crank it up....

Did you mean 80% point intensity? Everything above 12" will absolutely cooked at the point.

Edit: I saw your aquascape. No harm in pushing the light to 100%. The fan might run a little longer, but that is not a big deal. I would try that before adding light bars.

Yes.. It will cook everything above lets say 8" or so..
but my frags are at 16" below the surface so thats why I need alot of power....

yeah I did now ramp it up to 100% and get 300-350PAR in that area.

did turn green/cyan to 25% and red to 50% and white to 65%
everything else 100% and point intensity also 100%

Ill wait before I get bars.
