IM 75g filter roller

Hello:

I’m getting behind on changing filter socks- they clog up quickly and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with drop ins from a third party? I’m trying to avoid modifying the existing rfs sump, anyone had experience with nanomat or the klir 4 ?

Seems like it would be a tight squeeze, also the flow rates are rated for lower..

I run two Klir 4's in my IM 75 EXT controlled by my Hydros controller.

does it require any modification? Why the hydros control? Doesn’t it come with a controller?

This is the comment I needed. Would love to learn more about how you have the rollers placed. I’m setup on hydros so I definitely want to do this down the line. Any photos you can share? Curious how they are mounted.

IM support told me they have R&D working on a roller to install on the ext. No timeline was given though

When did you hear this? This is part of the reason I didn’t want to cut into the sump to make it happen

Thanks. Wondering if I want to try a klir before they release theirs. I am guessing the rollers they released for their aio is their test device

I have the IM and Klir on my 120. The IM I like much more because it turns every night for the time I set. The Klir uses the level which I have set to my Hydros but no way of knowing how many times it rolls. I do not like it as much plus when it does roll it drives my skimmer crazy. I had to set my hydros to turn skimmer off when water level get wets and keep the skimmer off for 5 minutes before it turns back on. That solved the issue of over skimming.

I normally run two but currently only one in the picture. The second just goes next to it with the motors facing opposite directions. Only one is running right now because i want to test the difference in fleece use, one compared to two.

Currently yes. First and third are capped. When or if i go back to two Klirs I'll run them in 1 and two and cap the third.

I have the same sump on my 112 EXT and I really hope they get this out soon. I don't mind changing socks out, but I do mind replacing them as they wear out.

If your fleece socks are clogging up to fast, consider replacing one or both with mesh filter socks.

BRS only seems to carry 200-micron socks. They'll clog up a lot less quickly, but don't filter quite as well.

If you can find 50 - 100 micron socks (e.g. on Amazon, which I am somewhat loathe to direct people to), those may be a better choice. Or, like I said, some combination of either fleece and mesh, or two different kinds of mesh.

Best bet would probably be something like the NanoMat Fleece Roller that will fit in most standard filter sock wells.

I'm with you on Amazon, but I did pick up these honeycomb style socks that have been great. Part of it filters like the felt but it also has sections with just mesh so it's a nice compromise between the two.

the only reason I didn’t go nanomat is because it’s rated for 250gph. The klir is 750

Ordered the klir to try. Will you let us know your thoughts on running 2 vs 1?

2 vs 1 Klir 4/s on a 75 gal IM EXT. Two ran for 26 days . I had them in the 2nd and 3rd sock hole with the one next to the intake area plugged. I then ran one in the center sock hole plugging the 1st and 3rd hole. It lasted 23 days. So far for me anyway it's not worth running two for now. I just loaded up the one Klir and placed it in hole 1. I am running the large Mighty Jet pump and speed 5.
