So after my wonderful evening at the indian casino last night i have decided with my winnings i want to buy an MP40 to add to my 120g..

Soooo from what i can see they run around $420-450 new. I have the cash for a new one but i am also seeing lots of them for sale in the FS adds used from about 275-350 so saving 100+ bucks would be awesome but what do you guys think about buying used powerheads?

I've never bought a used powerhead before so i don't really know if i'm just asking for problems and also, what would be an ideal price i should be looking for? let me know, cause when i comes to fancy powerheads, i've got no clue.

thanks.

Congrats on the winnings!!! I would probably go used pending inspection of the unit, so probably best to go local if you can. I would vomit passionately if I had to spend $450 on a power head. Probably the most overpriced piece of equipment imo, next to the $4,000 led systems I've seen recently.

very true, ha. they are really overpriced but finding one locally may or may not be a problem. I'm definitely going to look but id rather spend extra money for a new warranted one than buy a used one and have issues. I made that mistake with my light fixture and had the dude drop off the face of the planet after selling me a complete pile of crap fixture.

Personally I'd go new, I've had to sent in my MP40 twice in the past two years. The service and warranty is great and I'm not sure I'd risk that.

I think you should fallow what you think planed on doing. IMO its better to buy new, unless your strapped for cash. I bought all four of my wireless ES modals new due to I wanted them to have a full warranty. Socal tropic has some good deals IMO a free wet side for 450 shipped it great IMO.

I just got two mp40's for my 90g and they are absolutely awesome. Go new, check ebay, that's where I got mine from. Look for the "best offer" sellers. Good deals are out there!

I may have one for sale if I decide to upgrade to a mp-60. Weird thing is one of my vortechs just went out (a little over 2 years in service) and one is perfect (bought around 8 months ago). With that said, I would just buy a new one from Tom at Socaltropical fish. Btw, pm me and let me know how much you won!! You lucky *******!!

haha, the indian casino treated me well. I feel that i better just man up and buy one or hurry up and find a deal on a used one cause this money is going to burn a whole in my pocket or i'm going to talk myself into being responsible and you it for bills. ha

Hmm i'll look for a good used deal tonight and if i cant find one i'm going to just buy new.. i think. ha
