I'm Coming out of the Curling Closet

I like watching curling. There, I said it.

I can remember, as a young lad, watching it on ABCs Wide World of Sports on Sunday afternoons. Might explain why I take bocce ball so seriously.

I've hid my fondness for this sport my entire life and finally society has come to accept it; sportual equality has arrived.

I actually like it as well......probably my favorite Olympic event behind the big air stuff. Once you learn the rules, it becomes more than watching people throw rocks down the ice lol.

There are local clubs in most major cities. A good friend of mine is a member and curls weekly. I've gone a couple of times and have taken an introduction course. It's actually quite physically demanding. The sweeping is less sweeping and more like intense floor scrubbing while shuffling quickly down a sheet of ice. It made me sore in muscles that I didn't know I had.

Also, drinking is encouraged, which is all good in my book.

Curling is a lot of fun and is very challenging. As mstockmaster mentioned, you WILL be incredibly sore in places where you didn't even know you have places.

As an added bonus, it is also one of the very few sports where the winners buy the losers a drink. I've had many free drinks

The ice in a rink isn’t as slippery as ice on your driveway. Curling sheets are also pebbled, which adds roughness but also helps the stones travel and curl. You should give it a try.
