I get the concept of the three drains…
Primary with the T and 90 being submerged, secondary with a trickle and emergency above waterline…
First two go into sump below water line, emergency above to make noise…

But how/what does the 90/down pipe on the primary achieve when the other side of the T is open to water as well… I could see if it was two 90s but I don’t see how water would come from the Down pipe with the T open…

I'm assuming they designed it that way so that it breaths and not create a full syphon or to lower noise.. You could put a cap on it and experiment.
 
The water level should be above both openings. Adjust the full siphon to get a small amount of water going down the secondary.

I see no point in the tee/"durso" in this design... why not just have a straight pipe with a strainer on it?

My thought is they wanted to not have stagnant water at the bottom but also didnt want the whole back chamber to empty when the return pump is off.

Yeah, I understood that part... I was just trying to figure out if the T with an opening on the right side actually allows the water to be sucked out of the pipe on the 90 degree bend going towards the bottom (full siphon drain). Or why there was a T when most siphon drains don't have that or if anything just have a small pinhole to break the siphon...

Does it actually work and drain water from the lower point or does it all drain through the T opening up high?
