Today, I harvested about 50 hermit crab type crabs from tide pools here at my local beach.
I placed them into a glass jar and brought them home, dumping them into a 10 gallon bin filled with Chaetopmorpha and old tank water.
Every one is dead. No movement. Zero.
Temperature is the same and even the salinity, while not 35ppt is about the same as the tide pools are located at the mouth of NY Harbor where the East and Hudson rivers empty.
I've harvested before and typically dump them into one of my tanks. But this time, I decide to take this step just in case.
Any ideas why 50 active, thriving crabs would be dead 20 minutes later?
