Well, sort of, unless you forget or.....

only do it every few days. It should be done at least daily for acros, ato will do it every hour or more. Stability.

Salt creep will contribute, a little. I don't think it's much if your checking sg at least weekly.

As I said before, IME, 1.023 is my bottom or things go sour in my system.
It's cool that you can comment to multiple things in one reply, I didn't know that, pretty awesome. You're right about forgetting, I didn't forget exactly, I fell asleep while putting my baby to sleep a few times. I think I'll just try a higher quality ATO and hope for the best. Not big on throwing money away after a few months of use.

Those appear to be GHA (based on the pics.. hopefully not dinos). I pick up some hermits and snails and put them on the frag rack to eat those up.
It's not gha, unfortunately I know what that is all too well with my 30g hex. Gha, gba, vermitid snails are the reason I'm shutting that down to only have emerald crabs and snails. I have snails and blue legged hermits in the 65g, neither one even bother with it.

My tunze ato is like 7 years old now and still cranking along. I changed the pump last year, not because it died, because it was old. I kept it incase the new one dies, and I'll run it until it does so.

Not quite right.

It's low alk: low nutrients
High alk: high nutrients

High alk contributes to high growth rates and needing more nutrients to feed the coral.
If nutrients are not available, this leads to stress /sts/rtn.
You are thinking modern low nutrients, I'm talking low nutrients like 15 years ago where what was preached was run alk from 10-12 and 0 nutrients, back then 0 was not really 0 and tanks were different.

Yes, I'm an old salt and remember. Things always died for me back in the '90/'00

I’m not sure what you think is different from 15 years ago? I had a Hanna Checker about that long ago and zero po4 was 0.0.
