I have a toadstool that jumped its mount and injured itself very badly on a heater (it quite literally wrapped around it then the heater turned on). Anyhow, it's been recovering in my tank for about 2 weeks and not really making much progress. The main contact area turned black pretty quick and pulled away, the tissue underneath shed and now I have this large disfigured toad stool with a gaping pit that covers about 80% of its once 6 inch wide cap. There is a section of undamaged tissue on one side and I am wondering if I should cut it off and frag that and toss the rest which doesn't appear to really be doing anything. I feel like the damaged area, the pit, has spread, but I can't be sure because it may be the fact I've stared at it for over a week worrying.
Otherwise it does not appear to be melting, it does not smell foul, and it isn't releasing cloudy milk into the water. But I do worry I might lose the whole thing.
Anyhow, suggestions appreciated. Thank you.
