I've always been an aqueon person lol - until I started setting up a FW. Now I'm hooked on UNS tanks. I have a 10g FW and a 4g pico reef. Thanks! I’ve been in the hobby abt 4 years now and I much prefer a smaller tank with low iron glass and having the extra money to spend on better filtration then buying a larger aqueon tank and cheaping out on the filtration.
When is use the Aqueon tanks I’d be too scared to drill the glass so I’d run a hob which just isn’t enough. I also ran the tunzee 9004 but since it was all in the tank I’d never have a tight seal on the tank so fish would jump out. I highly recommend the mini q skimmer. The tank sits right next to my bed and it’s pretty dang quiet doesn’t effect my sleep at all. Can’t wait to upgrade in the future and get a sump the space is tight and it sucks cleaning the aio chamber but it beats a hob.I've always been an aqueon person lol - until I started setting up a FW. Also have an IM lagoon 25 for my main reef tank also now. Pretty happy with it but coming from a sumped system I really miss the flexibility you get.
For filtration are you referring primarily to protein skimming? Or chemical? I've been thinking to get the bubble magus mini-Q but I also keep macros and so far those have really helped keep nutrients in check.
Never got into growing macros well I’m growing ulva unintentionally. What’s the main difference between a macro tank and a reef tank? Lighting nitrates phosphates etcI've always been an aqueon person lol - until I started setting up a FW. Now I'm hooked on UNS tanks. I have a 10g FW and a 4g pico reef.

Honestly not a huge difference, but you have to be mindful of their growth and keep sufficient nutrients.Never got into growing macros well I’m growing ulva unintentionally. What’s the main difference between a macro tank and a reef tank? Lighting nitrates phosphates etc
Yea i definitely in the future want to get an oversized sump and make a big refugium and make it a macro tank instead of it just being a floating ball of chaeto. Also keep ur eye out they do discounts on it all the time. I got my mini q on Black Friday for 40 bucks. I think it’s on sale for 50 55 bucks rnHonestly not a huge difference, but you have to be mindful of their growth and keep sufficient nutrients.
And trim it. Sometimes I dose iron and FW planted fertilizers. There are some good guides out there though - I can completely recommend keeping some macros. Ulva counts I believe :)
Appreciate your recommendation of the mini-Q. Since my tank is still pretty new I'm seeing where it settles before making too many equipment decisions but I would at least like the ability to run a skimmer part time.
