Innovative marine fusion pro2

Hi All,

I recently acquired a second hand innovative marine fusion pro2 40 gallon aio tank from a friend. I was surprised to see how filthy the bottom of that back chambers were.

I'm wondering how you guys keep this clean for routine maintenance. The issue is due to what I consider to be a design flaw: the baffles do not go all the way to the bottom of the tank and therefore there is an dead space below the baffles that is essentially inaccessible. How do you guys keep this clear of detritus?

Yeah that upside down T isn't the best. Fish have jumped over and are hard to retrieve once they're in there. :)

Haha I hadn't even thought of that. What a nightmare.

I was thinking of mounting a small nero pump or something down there just to stir things up. Would have been so easy to just make these normal baffles. I'm baffled as to why they didn't just leave normal baffles in there. Fewer parts, easier construction.

Thanks but I have a pretty tight fitting media basket for one of the overflows and I use the other for a protein skimmer that will only fit in the overflow spot.

Have you seen any solutions to the inverted T problem?

no i no longer have this tank.

About every 6 water changes I take everything out and flush it all out with my water changer using the dirty water I sucked out of the main tank. Mind you, my water changer is SUPER powerful and could water your lawn.

It's not a "design flaw". They did it that way on purpose so they could use a single line of accessories (media caddies, skimmers, UV, etc) for multiple size tanks. That's why the list their accessories as "desktop" (10, 14, 20 and 25), "mid-size" (30L, 40, 40L, 50, etc) or "full-size" (SR series).

It is less than ideal, but it was definitely designed that way on purpose.

As for cleaning it, once a month or so I use a turkey baster to stir it all up while I suck it out with my Python. There are probably better ways to do it, but that works for me.

I had this happened to a Spotted Dragonette i owned for years.

It's honestly a terrible design, with no upsides to argue for it. It's shocking they still make it this way. Their small tanks are also terribly overpriced because they force you to buy all of their pumps and stuff with it.
