I am almost ready to drill and install my overflow kits. Also need to buy a return pump...Thinking about using a Mag 9.5 pump
http://www.marinedepot.com/Danner_S..._Powerheads-Danner_Mfg.-DN1127-FIPHFF-vi.html

I am going to buy a kit from Glassholes. I was thinking about this kit:
http://glass-holes.com/700-With-an-Emergency-Drain-Complete-Kit-GH700EMERKIT.htm

So the question is will this work for a 100 gallon tank and a 45 gallon sump with a mag 9.5?
Or should I go with a 1400 gph pump that will match the gph of both over flows?
The overflow is rated for 700 gph. two of them together would be rated for 1400 gph
The mag 9.5 is rated for 950 gph

the distance from my overflow intake to the mag 9.5 pump will be roughly 5 1/2 feet.

I just want to get an idea if this will work.

Thanks.

Why two overflows? I have a 90 and went with the 1500 gph overflow.....right in the middle of the back wall.

And FYI, I originally had a MAG 9.5 as my return pump (for over 8 years) and it worked great.....a real workhorse. I'm now using a DC pump (Waveline DC6000)

Just to make sure nothing gets clogged up. I plan to get the lid for added security as well.

Should I just get the 1500 and ditch the 2 700's?

so the mag 9.5 worked perfectly with the 1500 gph overflow?

First off the saw teeth on the overflow are maybe 1/4 inch wide, while the two pipes are each 1 1/2 inches in diameter. I don't see how something could get past the teeth and clog the pipes.....and two of them at that. I've had mine running since 2007/2008 without incident. And FYI, when I purchased this Glass-Holes, they didn't make lids....that lid you see is one I made from scrap plexi I had sitting around. Shortly after I made mine, they started offering lids. The only maintenance I do on mine is to "plunge" the breather tubes, maybe every six months or so. You'll know when, when you hear it gurgling. The tube gets clogged with precipitate.

And yes, the MAG 9.5 worked like a champ. However, I will state that I do like this DC pump....slow start and fully adjustable....very nice.

Thank you.

I would really like to get the Vortech M1 vs the Mag. I can adjust the flow to my needs. Thanks for your help.
