Started out with Instant Ocean in the 80s. Don’t t recall any other options. Public aquariums use it. Now I’m using Reef Crystals for my nano but likely going to Tropic Marin Pro for main. No clue why :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Just an FYI for ANY salt…

The salt crystals and additive major and trace elements are separate. So salt crystals and powders. During shipping and handling the lighter and heavier particles tend to settle differently and can easily lead to what you observed.

Bag or bucket, you need to mix the entire quantity very well before use.
Woah. Didn’t know this. Will certainly start doing that.

45 years using Instant Ocean. Would never use anything else.
1) Long term track record
2) no known batch problems in my memory
3) Most cost effective salt on the market
4) I've never not been able to find it locally, be it a LFS or PetsMart, PetCo, I believe even Walmart
