Is it my imagination?

It seems as though posts related to fresh water are coming up a bit more frequently. Maybe it's my imagination. While I realize this is a reef/salt water site, maybe a form related to fresh water is in order?

Do fish live in fresh water?

A few mouse clicks, type in a title, click apply. Whalla ... new forum.

Why would you thump a rodent? Oh! I get it. You're speaking computer jargon. No habla.

I think it's a great idea, we have a lounge section, so y not a freshwater section, or a planted section within it. alot of reefers started with fresh or still have both. It would increase traffic and youd be able to add to the wealth of knowledge in one place. @revhtree what do you think??

Maybe just one forum for all things FW. This is a SW/reef community after all. Seems like it could just be an avenue for those of us that keep both to discuss anything fresh.

I also have both. I was really tired once and almost got them confused when doing water changes. o_O I have been thinking of having discus. But don't know enough about them.

I own a planted tank but I don't like the idea. There are dedicated forums for such. Ive been on others forums that had both and it created distention in the ranks.

I tried to reply a couple of times but everything I wrote ended up being rude so I'll just quote you. There are plenty of places to talk freshwater without reef2reef becoming reef2freshwater.

@code4 ive had many discus. They make a great planted tank but are different than most other fish to care for.

I have enough trouble keeping up with new threads that interest me as it is. I don’t need more stuff that doesn’t interest me pushing itself into my screen.

At some point more is just ‘more’, it’s not ‘better’.

I'd rather have experts in one field or another instead of a Jack of all trades personally.

I like that this is specifically a reef aquarium forum. If it was just an aquarium forum I don’t think I would be nearly as active.

I agree. The lounge is a great area to post to that. I don't think an area just for fresh water is needed. Who's got time for fw tanks.

Clearly, this is a salt water forum. But people are posting fresh water questions with a lot of replies. I did a search for “fresh water” and there are about 20 pages of hits.

I thought it might be something to consider.

Yes but the bulk of those are about fresh water mixing, fresh water dips for corals and fish, cleaning with fresh water and kalk, ect.

I would be all for it for a few reasons.

1) My wife wants to set up a small planted tank. I think I remember enough from my FW days to make this happen but who knows what advancements in FW tech there have been since I was last keeping it going?

2) It took me long enough to find a reefing forum I could trust with an active user base. I don't want to find one for fresh! While of course a dedicated FW forum would have more comprehensive information, I would follow most anyone with

3) Knowledge never harms anyone. What lessons could there be for reefers to learn from freshwater keepers and vice versa, if any? I honestly don't know! It would be very interesting to learn.

I see the issue of further fragmenting the forum but maybe there are other ways it could be streamlined? The members tank builds section, for example: should I be posting about my tank in the AIO section, the cube tank section, the nano section, or just the regular tank section? Do the mantis shrimp and clams subforum get enough traffic to warrant them being separate from the rest of the inverts?

With that said, obviously this forum is successful and people are able to navigate the subforums easily.
