Is it wrong i dont want fish

I have two baby clownfish in a 40 gal breeder so you barely see them. But besides clowns i dont really want fish and i feel like im wasting space :(

I do have a baby nem in the tank as well. Maybe the size of a penny

Welcome to the wonderful world of invertebrates!

We have plenty of fun critters for the aspiring enthusiast from sea urchins, snails, shrimp, starfish, and crabs to the more unique such as fuzzy chitons, sand dollar, clams, and more.

But also no pressure to keep anything in your tank! I have a tank with anemone (although I might add a crab soon). :)

I moved to Missouri and my reef did not survive the move from Minnesota. I lost everything except my clownfish, a pistol shrimp, a cleaner shrimp, and 1 cucumber. I am re-reefing but I have no desire to buy more fish. I feel horrible that I killed my amazing reef as it is, starting over is just, well, inverts and a couple clowns sound amazing.

Hey man, like everything you do in life, just concentrate on what makes you happy. And honestly, a clown pair in a 40g will make a VERY happy clown pair. Lots of room to roam......

After running a fish and coral for years, when my 20+ year old tomato clown finally passed I decided to go coral only and that's what I've been running the last 9 months or so. I love it. The range of strange creatures that seem to thrive in there now because of a lack of predation is so interesting. When I look at it with the lights off, there is tons of particulate - it's all alive micro stuff floating around.

For me at least, I find that I can't feed the corals - don't need to - the micro fauna seems to be enough, and there seems to be plenty of it. If I feed, it gives me small outbreaks of HA.

My wifey thinks I'm nuts - and when kids come over, they aren't as interested as they used to be. But I don't care. I have a magnifying glass and sometimes spend hours just geeking out at the many different life forms that seem to crawl around and the corals themselves. I'm not sure I would want to add a fish at this point which would eat up all of that micro life.

Just a thought others can agree or disagree with their experiences, but years ago, before biota and Yellow Tang breeding I read that coral reefs in the “Wild” are healthier with abundant fish. We’ve always had fish, little corals, but always kept that in mind.
I agree, like no aquascape is the same it’s Your Reef, you’re World.

I had my tank for 3 years befor adding any fish, things grew well but when i aded just 1 firefish the tank rally took off. It ain't necessary but in the end i think the corals like it more. Maybe if you feed the corals alot the diffrence isnt that great.

I don't know your source - but my guess its algae related. (i.e. fish eat it)

When the clowns and nem grow up they will use the entire 40 gallons of space and be happy that there are no other fishes in the tank to contend with. It's really a very tiny space compared with the ocean they were made to inhabit. It is much better for fishes to have plenty of space, just like it is more fun to go to Disneyland when the sun is shining and everyone else stayed home.
