Is my Elegance Sick? Please help

Guys I purchased an Elegance coral about a week ago. This is my husbands favorite coral and he had one many years ago when he had a reef before he moved out of state and had to get rid of everything. Needless to say after we purchased this guy we started reading and discovered all the information about the disease they seem to be plagued with now days. Had I known this before hand I would not have bought him. Needless to say for the most part during the day he is doing great. His tentacles don't seem to open as much as we think they should but we are not sure that isn't normal. However, first thing in the morning right after the lights come on he is really drawn up and covered in a whitish clear and brown slime. I have pictures I am going to include of both before and after. I have tried to look at pictures of Brown Jelly Disease but I can't seem to find any good ones. Hubby seems to think it is normal and nothing is wrong with him but I am worried. I have also noticed in the morning that one side is receeded back further into the shell than the other sections. I really don't wont to lose this guy so I am asking not only for your opinions but your advice what is this and what can I possibly do to help keep this guy alive?

Yeah, it doesn't look good. Unfortunately many of these have a poor survival rate. It didn't used to be this way and susposedly the Aussie elegances are less prone. Have you checked your water parameters? Some say that low Mg can cause a polyp bailout effect but your problem almost looks like an infection. There are people experiencing similar problems over on RC so you might learn something from them. I've only kept one back in the early 1990's when this sort of thing was virtually unheard of. Sorry I can't offer a more definitive solution to this coral's problem. Good luck and keep us posted and you might want to post in the LPS forum for more experience throughout the community.

Unfortunatly the elegance coral has a bad reputation for not being easy to keep alive. I dont know of any secret to there survival. I have seen a few tanks that have them and they are very healthy, but most seem to die. I love them myself but choose to not purchase due to the survival. I would say yours in definatly not looking well. when they start pulling there tissue in and receeding so to speak they usually dont last long. there are some coral dips out there that could help. but I doubt it. good luck
