Hi! I just bought this damselfish a few days ago in addition to my 55 gal aquarium. Main thing I’m worried about is if she has some kind of fungal infection or more importantly any other disease that’s worse.

All of my other fish are ok, water parameters are ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate around 15.

I did start this tank about 2 months ago.

She eats mysis shrimp and is very active.
Maybe it is the start of something so just want to catch it early on.

No gasping at surface or anything like that. Just the white colors. I got her around three days ago. No aggression or fighting in the tank either.

This looks like skin rash and likely from diving into rocks as they spook easily. Adding ruby Rally pro will assist with healing

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Looks like some missing scales on the belly. Is it just on the fish's left side?
What other fish are in with it?

I have a six lined wrasse as well as a pair of clownfish at the moment. I’m thinking it’s due to her quickly diving into a rock as soon as I released her into the tank. I was just worried it was some kind of sickness, but as everyone is telling me, might just be some missing scales. My first saltwater tank, so I’m paranoid about everything haha.

And it seems to be only on one side. Doesn’t look like it’s spreading. She’s super active & swims around the entire tank. Eats actively too, which reassured me.

but if there’s anything I should be concerned about, please do let me know!! Thank you so much.

I would just watch it for now - just like you said, watch for it spreading, or any changes in the fish's behavior.

That said, the clowns or the wrasse *could* be aggressive (although with damsels, it's often the other way around). Watch for chasing, shying away or ripped fins on any fish.

I think it might be ich.. I’m noticing like two superrr tiny dots on her tail. She seems to be eating fine, but she seems super restless at night, like swimming across the whole tank while the rest of the fish are sleeping after lights out. I’m worried because I don’t have a quarantine tank, but I would be ok with dosing the entire tank with whatever medicine is needed. I do not have any snails or corals, it’s only live rock & sand.

Should I take her back to the store I got her from as a surrender? I understand that it will not fix the issue, but maybe lessen it when I dose medications?

It could very well have ich also, the scales on the belly isn’t a symptom of that though. Just watch the spots - ich spots will come and go day to day, changing location and generally increasing in number over time. All exposed fish would need to be treated though….and that can be tough. Taking it back now would not help you.

I think it is ich. I’ve noticed her flashing against the sand more often now and I’ve noticed more dots on her other side, on her fins. I made a new thread with vids + pics if you can check it out. I suppose I will set up a quarantine tank. I have an extra sponge filter, heater and a airstone. Could I use a plastic bucket or a tote? And because there is no time to cycle, how would that work?

I would hate to lose all the fishes the third month I’ve had them.

It will be clearer in this video hopefully.

Yes - I can see some possible ich trophonts on the tail fin. I’m working off my phone so it’s tough to see clearly enough confirm that…..
