Hard to tell by the picture. My yellow Fiji leather is much larger. like 16 inches across and breaks off buds all the time. About 5-10 a month! A good sign to me it that the polyps are extended. Just see where it goes and let it break off naturally. When ever I pull the buds off they take longer to attach to a new rock/plug. Good luck!

When the buds are released do they look like snow flakes in the tank ?

Could it be getting nipt at? I have a medium sized toadstool that was nice and round,an emerald crab started to eat the edges. Now it looks like I chopped
the edges off for frags. It's been about 4 months and still looks a little ragged.

It's just another form of reproduction. I have this happen with a number of Sarcophyton and it almost always just produced another healthy coral.
