Welcome to Reef 2 Reef... :)

It's probably normal, but can you upload some detailed photo's, for others to see?

Yes it looks the same as in the pictures or a tiny bit better

If it's new to your reef, I would not mess with it too much, but if it's in high flow I'd make changes.
Might want to try to feed it with something like Reef Roids, and see if it reacts in a positive way.

I love reef roids for my plates. I mix up a very small amount, stop all flow, use my feeding squinter to put just a hair of it above it. When it settles onto the plates, they usually go crazy, extend out, and then I put the rest out. With regular feeding they will grow like weeds. I have had one almost triple in size from December to now.

Those are the only "Reef Roids" there are. As for harming fish, nope. Mine try to grab at the stuff and eat it all up, but it is so small they fail every time lol.

Never had a sand-sifting star and run a bare bottom reef.
So, I'm clueless about it standing up too.

Have you been checking your water parameters:
Like... ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and phosphates?
