It’s totally shriveled up. It has never seemed happy and was constantly floating around. It was eating and we fed it prices of shrimp. But now it just seems like it’s given up…?

I read that they can kill the tank when they die so I definitely want to make sure I remove it in time but I also don’t want to kill it if it’s still got life in it…

The LFS said to put it on the sand. But I can definitely put It up on the rocks.
 
I would recommend digging a hole where the sand borders the rocks. Then gently place it in the hole and smooth out the sand. This will give it a head start and some assistance in anchoring itself properly.
