Is the AI Nero 3 that bad?

The only issue with mine two running for a year has been the app resetting the time and date randomly. It is super frustrating but everything else about it is great. Besides maybe the price.
Is it possible you powered it off? I have a Nero3 and a Prime 16 and I noticed that my lights were on at weird times. I thought maybe it was the lunar phase it does, but finally checked and the time was off. I had turned it off for awhile to clean and do maintenance, so not every time I kill the power on one or the I check the time.

I have been running one on my WB 20 Cube for 5 years no issues. I'll admit that I haven't removed the magnets for awhile, so sounds like next water change I'll check, but otherwise no issues.

Hey, I’ve been looking at a wave maker to get, and I’ve been looking at the AI Nero 3. But upon looking into it, I’ve seen many people complaining about product quality, and reliability. Is it that bad? Any other suggestions would be great, I’m working with around $180.
I've got 2 Nero 5’s on an 80g, been running fine for over 2 years and had no issues with the mobius app. They're quiet, powerful and easy to clean with some water

I have (3) Nero 3's. One of the first two I ordered, failed. So AI sent me a replacement, and I sent them back the defective one. Chewy sent me also a replacement for one of the two I ordered, and that's how I ended up with three. I like them. The app is easy to use. Taking them apart to clean is super easy. I think they can be finiky if not cleaned regularly (or maybe that's just me and my luck).

I just bought a Nero 3 for my Fluval Evo 13.5.
I plan on putting it on the wall where the inbuilt sump is. Does anyone know if you can put the other side of the magnet in water?
Thanks

I don't believe it'll work through that think of glass. I have to have mine on either wall away from the return pump section in the back

I have two Nero3 and one Nero5 -- both the Nero3's died in 2 years. I've already cleaned them but like others said -- it's likely the magnets, which you can't replace right?

The Nero5 is still going strong - love it! Glad that I can control all of them from within Mobius...

Two of the Neros I had failed after about a year.

Every product from aqua illumination except the lights are rebranded slightly changed cheap products.

The wavemakers aren't their own design.

They only change the controller and colors a bit.

Everyone remembers the axis pumps (zksj bs ) that could only run at max 80% before shutting off..

I love their lights. But other products ill never buy again:)

Oh, if we're talking about life span, I've gone through 2 Nero 3's and I got them in March 🙃

I was referring to putting both sides of the Nero in water. So the outside magnet putting it in the return pump area of the sump.

You can always give it a shot. It may or may not. You can always try and see 😁

I’ve had a 3 running on random for a year straight in my sump. No problems, but I am definitely checking the magnet manana. Have two 5’s in the DT, no issues there either.
I have a pair of them that are 2 years old and they are rock solid.
Only thing that stops them is when my diamond goby is an idiot and gets sand in them.
But the nice thing is that the controller figures that out and shuts it down so it doesnt burn up.

I have the 5 too and given the choice to do it over again, I would go with all 5s.

Are the Nero 3s always mounted flat on the glass (perpendicular ) or can they be angled? Looking for a reliable WM to mount on the back glass and pointed on an angle to the front center

I haven't been able to get much of an angle with them like I could with the MLW-5s I gave away.
Going to try the new DLW-5 series since they are bluetooth now.

I find that AI goes above and beyond when supporting their product. More than once, they have replaced out of warranty devices for me.

But I find AI's equipment very temperamental. There have been a few times when I wanted to make corrections and disconnected a device, only to have it not fire up when I plug it back in.

I have (2) Nero 5s. A cold solder joint for the power connection on one caused the component to fall off of the circuit board. They offered to replace it, but I did the repair myself. It since has failed completely. The other Nero is still going strong (3 years). So two purchased at the same time, on is chugging along, the other is in the garbage.

Again, as good as customer service is, I won't use AI moving forward.

They can only be angled slightly maybe 2-3 degrees at most, but for me that's enough.

To answer if they are really that bad - No. They're actually pretty decent, though in my 3 foot tank, I prefer the 5.

They are like anything. If you take care of them they will last a long time. Mine have given me 2 solid years of service so far. Only problem is occasionally when my idiot goby throws sand up into them and they shut off. But at least they have the sense to shut off when there is a problem instead of grinding themselves up.

3 foot tank and up and you need the nero 5. Nero 3 will be fine in a 2-3 foot tank. You want one on each end.
