Is the AI Nero 3 that bad?

Hey, I’ve been looking at a wave maker to get, and I’ve been looking at the AI Nero 3. But upon looking into it, I’ve seen many people complaining about product quality, and reliability. Is it that bad? Any other suggestions would be great, I’m working with around $180.

The only issue with mine two running for a year has been the app resetting the time and date randomly. It is super frustrating but everything else about it is great. Besides maybe the price.

Which is why I have 3 XR15s sitting on the shelf . Too many times the lights would turn on in the middle of the night when Mobius would randomly loose track of the correct date and time.
I love my vortechs tho and deal with it because flow changing isn't as big of a deal as having the lights blasting at 3am.

As to the nero I have two 3s and two 5s that i ran for over a year with no issues but I have seen quite a few reports of them with magnets swelling as @rtparty mentioned.

Yeah, I was thinking about it, but I saw how those could be noisy, and this build is going in my room, so the wavemaker being quiet is important to me.

Yeah, that doesn’t sound annoying. I think I might be considering the Nero 3, but with how many people have had issues, I still don’t know. The Tunze is starting to look better now

Mine is in my room and absolutely dead silent

I have a couple of tunze and they have been bullet proof.
As far as noise I've had many different brands of powerheads and the only ones I have found noisy are the vortechs when the wet and dry side are not properly aligned. I did have problems with gyres being noisy.

I’ve had a 3 running on random for a year straight in my sump. No problems, but I am definitely checking the magnet manana. Have two 5’s in the DT, no issues there either.

been using mine for a year and a half now and have no complaints. It is a very strong pump for its size. What I don’t like is how jet streamy it is being the only pump in my nano, it shoots pretty much straight. Tunze has more of a wide spread on some of their pumps. Really depends what you’re looking for. Have no regrets though and AI has a great app and programming

Thank you all for the replies! While it hasn’t quite helped me figure out which one I want, I think it’s made me feel comfortable about buying either option. I’ll have to do more research about which I think is better suited for my tank (IM 20g Nuvo Fusion), but again, thank you!

Where do you buy your Tunze from? I’m just looking at Amazon, and all the reviews say it’s good, but too loud

Yeah, that seems to be the other side of the table with the Nero’s. How often do you clean them/do maintenance?

If you run the Nero 3 above 70% you’ll hear it outside of the tank as well. I had one on my 26g nano and it could get noisy. I now use Octopulse 2s and couldn’t be happier with them (zero noise under 60% which moves a lot of water). I’d also add a +1 for anything Tunze.

Oh I didn’t know that, and I love the octopulse, but it’s a bit out of my budget . I think I’ll probably get tunze now, but I’ll still do research.
