is there a "best" filter roller yet?

im wondering if any of these issues (like the reefmat 1200 motor issue) could be related to flow, or too much flow possibly.

i know with a few different tank/sump setups I've had it took more time fiddling with to get right, usually the issues were because i was trying to push to much flow through my sumps without realizing.

obviously all these are a little different, does flow seem to make a big difference whith these types of filter units?

lots of great information building up on here!!!

Ohh i am sure that the heavier the crud and the higher the flow the more the motor has to work. They are just cheap $2 DC motors with plastic gear boxes.... as absolutely cheaply sourced and engineered as possible.

Just a visual update for those who wanted wanted more of my first hand experience on the precon filters.

Left in the bottom pic is the OEM roll and right is the precon ones.
Noticeably darker from the finer micron rating for sure.
