Is there a conversion factor for using an Apogee QMSS-E PAR meter on LED's?

Hey guys, I know there are often correction conversions that need to be made to correct PAR numbers when measuring LED's. I used a QMSS-E. Is there a conversion factor I need to plug into my numbers?

I belive it's the same standard immersion factor to compensate for immersion and is not light source dependent.

I could be wrong.

The correction factor was changed on the newer models to compensate for new sensor size that accommodated leds better.

@Dana Riddle has a collection. Perhaps he will know.

I believe your meter and sensor is an older one without auto-correction for the immersion effect (1.08 for the original black sensors and 1.32 for the newer full-spectrum model unless our meter has auto-correction.) As for spectral corrections, it again depends upon your sensor. If it is the older black sensor, I can provide those. If the newer sensor, the spectral response will be closer to that of the much more expensive Li-Cor.

Thanks! It's the black one

Checking in on this discussion... my local reef club has a par meter the apogee QMSS-E

I’ve been hearing mixed results from the club on the usefulness of this tool with LED lights... is there a way to identify which version of the meter I have?

The meter that you have available is by far the best one. ;)

(No meter is the worst meter of all. A lux meter is FAR better.)

"E" is for Electric..

I just brought home this same meter from my local reef club. How do you figure in the conversion? Is it just 1.08 * par reading
