Is this a brain coral?

And should I put it on the sand. I got this over the weekend and not sure exactly what it is.

Looks like a Favia. They also generally like lower part. Sand bed should be fine.

Yes its a brain.. looks like a Goniastrea or Favia

 

[DSC reef]

+1 brain coral. Looks like a reverse prism goniastrea. I'd suggest sand or another flat rock, just get it away from the green star polyps
