From the images of the clam closed yes it does look like a Maxima. I would like to see the clam with the mantle extended though.
 
I am pretty confident it's a Maxima, what was it sold to you as?
I see Cyanobacteria surrounding the clam?
How long have you had the clam and what lighting, is the clam just closing when you try to take an image of it?
 
It's definitely a maxima clam :)
 
Confirming its 100 percent a Maxima! :) it does seem to be stressed. Hiw long have yiu had it?

Maximas at this stage should really sit on a hard surface like a tile or rock. The sand will iritate its foot causes it to stress even more.
