New to the saltwater tank world and wondering if this is an anemone? I'm in the process of rehabbing this tank and just found this under some algae. Anyone know what it is? Theres two in my tank but this one has opened a bit more. Thanks!

Face down pic would help. How big would you say it is? There is a goid chance this is a nem in need of tlc.

Theres two and theyre both about an inch across. How would I help it out? I wasn't planning on getting any corals/nems until the tank was back on track so I haven't done my research on these. I'll see if I can get a picture with my gopro from the top.

What is the lighting on the tank? It would enjoy very small pieces of mysis every few days if it is a nem

The lighting is two 10 000k aquatic life bulbs, two 650nm purple aquatic life bulbs and two blue LED's. I haven't had the lights on for long periods of time as I'm fighting algae still, should I start leaving them on a bit longer? And perfect, I have some mysis, maybe ill put a few small pieces in.

I wouldn't leave it on long if it has been covered in algea it would be good to give it time to acclimate to light again. It could be a majano nem so don't feed too often until it gets a positive ID.

I just found some pictures of the anemones I'm trying to iD from a while before I got the tank. These pictures were included in the ad but when I arroved for the tank I didn't see these anemones anywhere in the tank (I assumed they had sold them separate like thie fish) and the tank was ALOT nastier than in these pictures (but a great deal!). I'm guessing these are the same pieces as they're in the same spots on the rock as they are in the pictures. Maybe these will help ID and help me figure out how to care for them!

Just thought I'd add that they are a lot smaller than that now, probably traumatized by me trying to get all the algae off (not realizing they were there)

Ok now I know what they are. They are mushroom corals. In very bad shape. They appear bleached even in the old photos. They will shrink over time in bad conditions. They should bounce back for you as long as you give them good water and keep the algea away.

Thanks! Do these guys eat mysis too or do they prefer something else? And yes, the tank was absolutely disgusting but was a steal so I figured I'd give it a shot. It seems to be improving quickly and the water keeps testing perfectly. I have a few bottles of coral supplement, would these help or hinder them? And do you have any recommendations on a light schedule? They seem to be growing by the day and are starting to open more and more each day, at first they were just tiny little purple blobs. I will keep working towards bringing them back! Thank you for your help as well!

They will occasionally grab small things that land on them but don't actively feed like other corals. They use light mostly. I wouldn't change much if they are recovering. Just stay focused on bringing the whole system around. I wouldn't worry about increasing light for them until the algea is under control.

These are YUMA mushrooms. It's not in bad shape at all in my opinion. They are very sensitive to light. If you just uncovered it, it might be used to lower light levels. This is probably why it's not opening all the way. Try moving it to the bottom of he tank. Or in an area of the tank with indirect light. When it gets use to the light, you can expose it to brighter light, or move it higher.
