i purchased a bunch of crabs awhile back and one of the larger one had a cocoon looking thing on it. well recently my wrasse decided he was a tasty snack and the shell is in the tank... i have been watching the cocoon as it looked to be turning red...... well tonight a took a close look and there is mucus and the cocoon is almost all gone but there is a red critter almost out, kinda looks like a cucumber or something... will post a pic in a few min.. any ideas on whether it should stay or go will be appreciated.

Perhaps a barnacle?

Pics will really help.

Still thinking some type of barnacle. Is the "cocoon" a hard shell?

Weird. I'm out then. I have some barnacles on my snails and clams and they do some weird stuff.

Ritter what do you do if its the snail you speak of?

If I'm seeing the same pic everyone else is then it's a vermetitd snail. I have a bunch of them and they are a pain. It's a tube worm that sends out a mucous net to catch food. The nets are ugly and they can irritate corals. If you can remove the rock and chip them off them you can plug the hole with epoxy.
