Recently got a new Rhodactis from an LFS, It had fallen off the colony it was growing on in the store so they gave me a discount. It's Flesh is fairly pale but I assumed that was its just coloration, did I just buy a bleaching mushroom. It moved itself to where it is now so could it be lighting or flow. I did notice that my tank reached 82 degrees briefly while I was at work today, for maybe an hour or two. It spewed filaments but more troubling is this milky white stuff coming from its mouth is this chemical warfare, or just a sick mushroom. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice on how to proceed, thanks in advance.

It looks more like a Yuma. I would give it mostly blue lighting for now and try not to let the tank get past 80 degree max. Set up a fan near the tank that will allow the air to blow above the water. The blue lighting will keep things gentle unless it's back to full health. It looks like it's going to do well.

Move it to some shaded area imo.
Should color up. I suggest low light.

Thanks for the replies, I just stepped down the lighting a touch and set it so its shaded by the live rock. The tank is usually at a stable 78F but I just forgot to take the lid off before I left for work, Temps in my area reached 104F luckily I got home to correct things before it got any warmer.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
No problem bud. A bit of a follow on thought. Mushrooms don't normally "fall off" a colony for no reason. If a colony is overfilled, some smaller ones that are getting shaded out may release and roll to a new spot.

If a mushroom has recently released, I would normally want to see it reattached to something, before bringing it home. That would be a red flag for me when looking to buy.

I thought as much when I was at the LFS looking at it, was going to get the whole colony but they offered me a deal on the loose head. I figured I'd be able to put it in my mushroom cage and it would re-attach itself but it wandered off on its own. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

It's still very well may. I've had mushrooms come back from a lot worse looking. Good luck and keep us updated

Turn on the lights this morning and it looks like it is fully melting away bits floating off in flow and kind of a stink to the tank, should I remove. Hate to give up on the guy but don't want to lose the rest of my healthy corals. @Lost in the Sauce

Unfortunately yes, That's your best option. Turn off your flow, Get the mushroom and as many pieces as you can out.

If you aren't currently running carbon, I would throw some in.

Just got him out and threw in a fresh chemi-pure just to be safe. Thanks again for the input.
