got some silicon. I asked for food safe/ nontoxic

That part about it being mold free makes me think no. You need to look for 100% silicone with no mold/mildew inhibitors and even there's no guarantee. I personally buy the small silicone tubes(online or at the store) that specifically say aquarium safe. Here are a few... Amazon.com: aquarium silicone
