When it comes to it sterilizers I always say that prevention is better than the cure. Does that apply to saltwater?

Yes for sure just make sure you have at least 90,000 to 120,000 micro watt kill rate.

I would use it at a lower rate than 214gph if you want disease control. This is a pretty light weight unit. TMC makes some really good units sold through American Aquarium on the web. They also have good information on disease control.

I dont know the science behind it but wattage and gph are much higher for saltwater aquarium than for freshwater. And flow rates are highly contingent on what you want to sterilize. An undersized UV sterilzer is useless, better to go with a higher wattage for your planned 60gallon.
Did you decide to go sumpless and get all hang-on-backs? Aqua UA and Pentair are the top brands when it comes to sterilizers according to the reviews on here.
