So I have the redsea 425g2.. I am currently away and my redsea app notifies me that my skimmer cup is full. I connect to my sump cam and see the reefmat bubbling.. This indicates that there is no water in the return pipes from the display area.. This happened already another time without me turning the valve.. does this indicate that I need to somehow clean the internal piping? Or service the valve? Or maybe change it to a gate valve? Have you experienced any of this?

The Redsea valves are finicky and need periodic adjustments. I ran a reefer 170 for 6 years and have a 300 thats been up over 2 years and they are not set it and forget it systems as far as return pump flow. Im not talking daily adjustment but probably monthly or around that. I read of people who installed gate valves and some said it was great and others said it didn't make much difference so I never bothered modding mine. Its possible yours could need cleaned but even cleaned mine still need occasional adjustments.

My Red Sea 750xxl G2 has periodic issues with the valve/return also - without touching anything water will not drain into the sump fast enough, causing the ato to work overtime adding way too much water and then i have to open up the valve and reset it ... very frustrating. I am going to try and clean the valve (a few videos online show how to do this ) plus am going to cut the secondary pipe a little lower to allow excess water to drain even if the regular overflow valve needs to be opened.

I hate that valve... glad to be rid of my redsea.

There are plenty of threads around on how to clean this valve, that's probably where I'd start.... Now that I have a different tank with a different valve, I'd probably be searching for help on how to replace it with something better.

Has anyone here done the gate valve upgrade? I am somewhat hesitant to cut my pipe, however if it's worth the change I will do it. I am on vacation and my reef mat is bubbling like crazy indicating that for some odd reason there is no water in the top display collection area
