In february I noticed I had been overdosing chaetogro. I sent in a ICP and found high values for several minerals:

-salinity was off as well but was fixed slowly and steadily.

A couple of weeks later i took the refugium out and put in a skimmer because it was too efficient and nutrients kept bottoming out.

Now, ever since I have had problems keeping snails alive.
Shrimps and urchins, corals are all doing well.
There are also 3 rocks that get pretty quickly covered in gha after i scrape it off.

I am wondering if the high mineral readings, iron, zinc, cobalt etc. could be contributing to these issues?

Latest tank parameters:
Salinity 1.024
Temp 25°c
Alkalinity 9.3
Nitrate 6.9
Phosphate 0.09

That zinc result may be the highest I have ever seen and certainly could be an issue. I’d do water changes or use a metal binder of some sort (polyfilter, cuprisorb, metasorb).

Yes these numbers are really off the chart!
I have done maybe 6 x 15% water changes since february. I ran cuprisorb a month back and now have Metasorb on the way. I will then do a big water change and send another icp test.

Cobalt might be one of the culprits. I had a similar episode but I noticed the snails becoming lethargic and stopped the Cheatogro. They recovered in a couple weeks.

@Randy Holmes-Farley
Hey Randy, hope it is ok I tag you. I put in some metasorb, the smaller package. It is said to remove up to 80 ppm of metals from 250 gallons. My tank is 120 gallons.
How long would you keep it in the sump baffle for?
