I've never seen this before

I've been in saltwater for what seems like forever and thought I'd seen or heard everything. Long story short, I had a led go out and had to switch back to mh. I went on vacation and Murphy's law it got hot. I lost a few corals including a aquacultured elegance. So, being ticked off I threw away the skeleton. Yesterday while doing a water change to my amazement. Their is my elegance all Polyped up with no skeleton. Anyone know if this will live?

Imho yes, I had a true undata do the same to me. No visable flesh and it came back from death. Sadly I lost it s few weeks ago from a tank swap. Because of this I started throwing My skeletons in the sump just to make sure they were dead.

This isn't too uncommon. Plates do this. They seem to die then their are babies that look like shrooms sprouting up.

I should explain a little better. The elegance completely detached itself from the skeleton. It's not a new polyp. The Skeleton was attached one day and the elegance was separated and on the other side of the tank the days later. It didn't die and come back.

Anything is possible.. I have seen a scolly do this on here one time.. Not sure if it survived or not it was awhile ago.. As for lps skeletons I always hang on to them I have had acans come back after being dead for months lol...

Surprisingly common when the coral is severely stressed, it's called polyp bailout. My poccilepora damicornis is starting to irritate me with all the new places it's starting to develop not only on the LR but on other corals and my clams shells... lol.
