Jasons double tank display

Hi all, figured I'd start a tank thread, and this time I'm gonna try to actually update it. My tanks are nothing spectacular, and still a work in progress.

-24 Gallon long 36"x12"x12" AGA manufacturer Great Lakes Aquariums
-10 Gallon standard AGA, bought at walmart. Meant to be a frag/display tank

Lighting
-36" 192watt Oydssea Power Compact 2-bulb (24gallon)
-24" 72watt Coralife Power Compact 2-bulb (10gallon)

Filtration
24gallon
-Coralife Needlewheel superskimmer 65
-Skilter(w/skimmer disabled) HOB filter, filled w/carbon and a sponge.
-Around 30lbs of Live Rock
-4-5" deep sand bed
10gallon currently a 50gl Biowheel HOB filter, will be pulmbed into 24gallons sump when complete, and when I actually have a sump.

Anyways, I'm currently building a new stand to house both my 10gl and 24gl in one viewable area. Picked up the lumber yesterday from Home Depot, and today I'll be slapping it together. Its the second stand I've ever built, and to be honest I'm unsure of how well it'll work. So I'll post the stand plans first, and maybe get some feedback first before I continue...next post the plans, then some tank pics...

And heres the plans, nothing is to measurement, and everything is very "rough". But I did these in windows paint, so give me a break.
first a back view of how the entire dipslay should look, I plan to heat bend as much of the pvc as possible, so the pipe work and even the sump plans aren't by any means set in stone. Just getting a feel for the idea.

and then the stand itself

all the pieces of wood are going to be 2x4's I just had a little difficulty getting them to look the same. When done it will stand 3feet or so high, by about 5feet long, by about 1'9" wide. Gives me some room to upgrade tanks in the future.

whens it's done I'm going to try and get some pre-made cabinet doors, or make a pop off magnetic door.

So what do you guys think will the stand work. Or should I rehit the drawing board.

I'll try and post some more pics when I get some free time, as well as pics of the stand build. Hopefully when the sump is done I can take out alot of the equipment in the Display tank, and create a cleaner look. I hope to in the future, have the tank drilled as well for both a closed loop, and for a internal overflow box. Thus getting rid of most of the powerheads as well. When the stands done, the sand bed will probally get moved to the 10gallon along with the wacthman adnd pistol shrimp, I'm tired of them burrying everything on the sandbed. Then the main tank will be Barebottom, from that point out.

Thnx still a work in progress, and I'm still learning as well. I just started in the hobby this year, around Feb or so. So my corals and tank are still pretty "new". But we'll get there.

Everything looks great but there is one thing you may want to look into. Are you going to use the overflows from glass holes where you drill the holes or are they going to be over the top? The only problem i see is that if one of the overflows breaks siphon then you could wake up or come home to a very wet floor! Just something to consider

well, I didn't get much done last night. Actually I got nothing done last night, to busy drinkning beer and playing cards, my one night a week for fun. And probally won't get anything done tonight as well (3yr wedding annv, have to devote the night to the wife) But Thursday, I should finally have some time. And since noones openly said my plans for the stand aren't structurally sound, I'll be building as soon as I get some free time. I'm just unsure if I want to tile the top of the stand or not, I've seen it on a few other stands and it looks really nice. It's the tiny details that I always overlook or screw up.

It is something I was afraid of, and yes for now, till I can get the tanks drilled, I was going to use overflow boxes or a PVC overflow system. But just till I can get the tanks drilled. When I go with the boxes or the PVC overflow, I'll have to add a siphon break incase of a power outage. But when I can afford the sump, thats when everything will be drilled.

Well another busy week went buy, but I at least got to work on the stand a little bit, made the bottom frame, and attached the four main legs. But now that the nursery is painted and all but finished(I hate painting the floor trim), I'll have a little more time for me. I hope to have the skeleton done by this weekend, if not done and partially skinned.
