Four new Giesemann Super Flora bulbs for the refugium light today. Trying a new spectrum. New GFO for the reactor tomorrow.

I’m forced to repent. I did not visit last like I promised [emoji20]

More like forced to “confess”. Repenting would be like coming over. LOL

Next time you’re in Knox and have time Ben, you’re more than welcome.

Cheers!

Long, long overdue refugium harvest. Lots of SPS losses recently. Totally bummed. Complete lack of testing, water changes, etc.

I think new refugium lights caused heavy growth, thick matting, and some macro die off beneath the mat which released a lot of bound nutrients. Combined with more laziness, not good.

Fantastic thread, really enjoy your awesome tank. We all go through up and down with our aquarium. Just go back to do what you were doing and everything will go back to normal.

Thanks guys.

Focused on my skimmer today. It has not been producing a lot of effluent into my over flow. Basically none for months, and as what is supposed to be the primary nutrient export mechanism.

IMG_3227.JPG

It’s an Aqua-C 240, installed in my sump in a way where it cannot be removed, and, is a bear to clean - a lesson learned in “ease” being synonymous with “frequency” when it comes to maintenance.

Anyway, the skimmer neck gets very heavily coated with scum. A non-smelling 1/4” coat of what I think is primarily the algae from cleaning my glass. It really doesn’t stink. Today I carefully removed all the scum and cleaned the neck. Then I adjusted the ball valve, driving the breaking bubbles up, in an effort to keep the neck relatively clean and effluent accumulating in the overflow.

I hope to start up a testing regime again, and watching for nutrients to decrease.

I hope to do a water change and harvest the refugium soon.

Thanks again for the support.

(My softies and chalices love filthy water!)

Hmmm. I’ve never had to drive the water column so high, to achieve so little output. Confused. #Aqua-C

This is a spray injection style skimmer. It’s kind of like squirting a hose nozzle straight down into a bucket to make bubbles. No spinning diffuser. No air injection to cause a spiral.

I supposed there could be some kind of surfactant in the system, an oil perhaps, that’s causing the foam to break. I’ll give it some more time I guess.

That's a lot of nems! I've always wanted one but not sure if I want a large killer coral roaming around the tank, especially since its just a 20 long.

I'm sorry about those corals. I know you'll be able to kick this tank back into high gear soon! I'm really looking forward to meeting you hopefully soon! Stunning tank! I'm sure it looks far better in person though :p
