I put fish food pellets on the surface and these things came jetting to the top. What the heck are these? are they bad?

Agree on hydroids. You can net them and discard before they attach to structures. Once planted at or near a coral, they are capable of stinging them/annoying them. They use their little heads to trap food.

It's a fowlr so luckily there are no corals to sting. I will still remove them when I see them.
