Hello! Earlier today, while swimming with mantas on Komodo Island in Indonesia, I noticed a small jellyfish-like creature near the surface. It was approximately 5 cm in size, had a translucent body with a purple core, and a single tentacle that resembled a filament. Along this tentacle, there were several purple "balls," and the tentacle itself measured around 10-15 cm in length. I was stung by it, which was quite painful, but the pain subsided after a few hours. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo to aid in identification. Any thoughts on what this might be?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

A bit of a shot in the dark without a picture here, but possibly a Bluebottle/Portuguese Man O' War? Some specimens (sometimes referred to as Physalia utriculus, though it's unclear if they are actually a different species than Physalia physalia) only have one tentacle, and are known to be small like you describe.
